Initial Filming

On Tuesday we decided to start our filming. We went to the location that we chose to film at and began to film the first half of our opening. Whilst filming we decided to go in another direction to what we initially planned as we think that we was trying to show way to much in the small time window we was given. So our opening of our film is gonna start with a montage of images and scenes making a short section where there is a build up of  an idea of a sadistic, creepy possibly mentally disturbed human being. The rest of the opening should be just like the animatic. Not the scene that is filmed in the house but the scene of the girl in the ally way. Below are some o fthe images we took whilst filming.

Settings and Props

.
Image 1 is one of the 1st places that we filmed. This dark environment creates an uncomfortable character sense which is exactly what were looking for.

In the second image on the left we see Faustas a member of a group. We used him in combination with a dark narrow corridor and a small amount of back lighting to create this creepy looking silhouette. We may yet use this corridor in our film because we can create allot of mystery about the main character.

This image is slightly like the image before in the fact that we used back lighting to create a silhouette of a hand. In the combination of low key lighting there is a great contrast in this image of light and dark.Adding this low key lighted shadow to the texture of the brick wall in the background we created a spooky/violent image. We could improve this image if the hand has some kind of weapon in it.

A prop which we decided will create a nice affect is simple tissue roll wrapped around our hand with red pant spots added on top of it. Also the dirty affect was achieved by drawing on top of the tissue and my hands with a 6B graffiti pencil.

One prop which we discovered is a piano which was warn down and rough with red paint already on it. So we used this idea and enhanced it with adding a sharp light on it and created Low Key lighting, which contrasted light and dark.

Garage Band

Garageband is a programme that allows me to create my own music. The programme has a little pop out key board, this key board has a lot of settings and adjustments which allows you to create almost any sound. However the key board is slow and awkward to use. This is the key reason that we will not be using this programme to make the music for both our ident and the thriller its
elf.

As you by the screen shot i have taken from garage band of the small keyboard it is very small and awkward. Having to click on the keyboard to make the tune becomes hard as if you click a wrong key you will have to start all over again.

Health and Safety risk assessmentt

When filming there is major considerations that we as a group have to make so that we do not break the rules of health and safety. An example of what we have to do is check that all our film locations are safe. If they are not safe we must consider what we have to do to make the location safe for us to film. It must be safe for our group members, actors and the camera its self. Another thing that we have to be aware of is weather conditions, if the conditions get too bad we should stop filming and leave the area.

No knives, weapons or guns, but if used, not in the sight of other citizens, (this could worry them and get myself and the rest of the group in a lot of trouble).

Be aware of roads, houses and other citizens.
Make sure all equipment is taken care of at all times.
We must check we have permission to film in the premises you choose.

Blair witch project

Last night i watched the blair witch project and found something that i DEFINITELY want to use during our thriller opening. The film is filmed with hand-held cameras the whole way through so as to show how the characters are using a home video camera. This adds greatly to the atmosphere and I'm sure we can fit it in somewhere in our thriller opening. If i film myself from below with a hand-held camera it portrays my character as the protagonist, whilst showing that he has good status and power and is important in the characters world and in the film. This is done by using the low shot. Simultaneously, the shaking of the camera and unsteady nature will show that the character is panicking and is in trouble, becoming a prelude to what is soon to happen.

Film Editions

At first we planned to show the girls in the house having a sleep over but then we thought that the scene would be to long and we wont be able to fit it in time. So we decided to not show the girls having a sleep over but just a girl running out of the house which cuts down the time of the scene. However this doesn't affect the story line too much because we get to the point about a man who's trying to kill a girl.

Mobygratis and music for our film

This shows that i have requested a non-copyright music from moby gratis.

Gratis request no. 31779 has been APPROVED according to the Terms & Conditions you accepted within your application.

Please download a copy of the moby gratis non-commercial license agreement and keep for your records:

This shows that the music that I have requested has been approved.

SFX and music for our video.

Today we looked at the sound effects we going to have for idents and for our film. We looked at effects on theiMovie and found some good effects which suit ourident. For the music for the actual movie has been difficult to find but we know what sort of music we want. We want a dramatic sound which makes it tense and affect the views emotions.

The art of the title

The Art of the Titles, is a website which analysis titles and the art that is used in it. This is a brilliant website which can give you ideas for a wide range of genres and films ,"artofthetitle.com"

I watched several clips from and they all gave me a different outlook on how to approach the titles. For my research on the art of the title i went on their website and looked at some of the work done for films.

It shows us how successful titles look like and how we can do it to make it look professional.

  3. A narrative pattern of establishing enigmas (problems) which the viewer expects to be resolved.
  4. A protagonist who is systematically, dis empowered and drawn into a complex web of intrigue by an antagonist.
  5. Extraordinary events happening in an ordinary situation.
  6. Theme of identity.
  7. Themes of mirroring.
  8. Themes of voyeurism.
  9. Protagonist with a "flaw" which is exploited by an antagonist.
  10. Titles often reflect an aspect of the protagonist or the antagonist.
  11. There is often a scene near the end of the film in which the protagonist is in peril.
